Tbilisi Portrait Project
Georgian democracy is unraveling. The re-election of the ruling party, Georgian Dream, in November 2024 has been accompanied by an authoritarian shift and a rise in violations of fundamental freedoms in this South Caucasus country.
The protests that have been taking place in the capital, Tbilisi, for over a year are only the surface of a much deeper situation. Behind them, an entire population lives in uncertainty. By photographing people on the margins of these demonstrations, near centers of power, I wanted to question what makes up the document of a place in transition.
These portraits are not about anger or resignation. They try to show a country caught in between — where daily life continues, even as uncertainty grows.
